Composing a narrative is similar to telling a story about a personal event or experience that holds special meaning to you the author. It should be written in such a way that the reader, your audience, will come to know and understand the significance of this event or experience in your life.
Your personal narrative will reflect your own experience of a personal event of your choosing and the meaning associated with the event.
1. Name of the Experience. Title your narrative in the following way: The Lived Experience of ___________.
2. Detailed Description of the significant life experience (2 pages). Describe the actual event or experience in detail, including the What, When, Where, Who (characters other than yourself if important to the narrative) of the experience.
3. Narrative Reflection (2 to 3 pages) of the personal meaning associated with your experience. There should be evidence of deep reflective thought as to the meaning this event holds in your life. Why is/was this event significant? How did this shape your understanding of yourself or of the world? Again, It should be written in such a way that the reader, your audience, will come to know and understand the significance of this event or experience in your life and understand how this experience has shaped you into becoming the person you are today.
