P: The Population or Patients: (Sample of subjects recruited for the study. What are the characteristics of the patients or people?) (age, gender, ethnicity, certain disorder-please describe thoroughly)
I: The Intervention, Influence, Exposure, Area or Variable of Interest: (What are the interventions or therapies or interest? What are the potentially harmful influences/Exposures of concern? What is the treatment that will be provided to subjects enrolled in the study? What did the researchers do for the patient-specific tests, therapies, medications? )
C: Comparison (you might not have this) (Refers to what was used as a reference group to compare with the treatment intervention-control group vs comparison group)
O: Outcome (What are the outcomes or consequences in which we are interested? What is the goal of the research? What do the researchers wish to gain from doing this research)
T: Time (you might not have this) (The time it takes to demonstrate an outcome, how long participants are observed, duration for data collection)
Background: Briefly tell the story of the issue and why it deserves our attention.
Stakeholders/Change Agents: Who and what organizations are concerned with, will benefit from or be affected by this research? This may include patients, students, agencies, Joint Commission, insurance companies etc.
