Le Chalet
Goal:
The rising number of people on our planet makes it so that it is incredibly important to continue developing homes. An Italian company has sent out a request for proposals for a single floor (bungalow style) house plan to be built in Dubai on the ocean. The building is to be constructed above the water with foundations on the ocean floor 30 meters deep with a small area called the aquatic observation deck which will be under water. Access to this residential structure will be by water only. Your company believes that it can put forth an award winning proposal for this project.
The purpose of this activity is to use the “SPICE” problem solving model to complete an activity: designing, drawing development, building, reporting and a presentation are required.
Agenda:
The house has to be built on a solid foundation, no floatation devices as main supports
The house must have:
o a means of providing its own source of energy
o a temperature control system
o its own fresh water supply
o a waste management system
o three bedrooms
o an underwater observation deck
o a terrace, a garden and a swimming pool.
o a docking area with an out of water boat storage area
o an emergency survival kit
o an emergency exit system
Materials required to construct the Chalet:
Materials used to construct the chalet must be selected carefully in order to meet the conditions of the environment while providing safety and comfort for the occupants of the dwelling. Recycled materials should be used as much as possible.
All ideas have to be discussed with the teacher prior to developing your final drawings
