For this second assignment, you may pick from one of three choices
1. Discharge Summary Report: Using the Discharge Summary Case Study (attached below or available in Unit 7), write your answers to the following questions in your own words:
1. What is Hypothyroidism?
2. How does Hypothyroidism and Hyperthyroidism affect the patient’s general health?
3. If the patient is suffering from Hyperlipidemia, how would this affect the patient’s general health?
4. What is the relationship between the patient’s diagnosis of Diabetes and the presence of Hypoglycemia?
You will be graded on the following: (a) Answering the questions completely and incorporating medical terminology (20 points – 5 points/question); (b) good grammar and no spelling errors (1 point); (c) using references WITHIN your paper (2 points); and providing a list of your references at the end of your paper in either APA or MLA style (1 point), OR
2. Choose a current medical event found in the newspaper, or on a television news program, or internet news site and write a 2-3 page paper. This paper needs to be referenced using your book, the source of the topic and at least 1 other source. This paper should be in an essay form and include an introduction (5 points), the body of the paper (15 points), and a conclusion (5 points). 3. Create an educational pamphlet on a disorder found in Chapters 11-22, written for a lay person. Creativity is encouraged. Include the following: definition/description of the disorder (5 points); signs and symptoms (5 points); how the disorder is diagnosed (3 points); how it is treated (3 points); how it can be prevented (3 points); information sites/support groups (2 points); creativity (4 points).
