This survey was carried out to analyze the quality of relationship and the impact it had on work productivity. This survey was carried out by a group of 30 employees drawn from various companies who voluntarily took part on the exercise. The group which took part in the survey, 70% was married and the other percentage was still single.
In the survey, we found out that 20% percent of the married employees argued with their spouses and children at home because they didn’t have enough time to spend with their families. They argued that the period spent at work was longer than the one they spent together with their families. According to Andy Core (n.d), people spend the least average of eight hours per day, and as such, they should be happy at the workplace. However, with family relationships strained, productivity is bound to reduce as one ponders on such issues at work.
To add to the above claims, 10% of the total employees had arguments with their co workers due to stress the have at their homes. This is because they find that the best place to bring about their arguments is at the work place. Reason being, they believe it is the one which is affecting their relationship at home.
In their article, Better Health Channel (2012), say that workplace conflicts resulting from personality clashes are rarely productive. This is because they tend to develop into hate and dislike with time. This can be sued to support the fact that maintaining healthy workplace relationships translates directly to increased productivity at work and possibly, at home.
According to Harter et al (2003), satisfying the basic human needs at the workplace promotes the well-being of the employees. This wellbeing is dependent on performance and they complement each other in a workplace that is healthy both finically and psychologically.
To quote Williams (2010), “D. G. Myers, in The Pursuit of Happiness, says that compared to employees who are depressed or unhappy, happy employees have lower medical costs, work far more efficiently and have less absenteeism.”
When people are happy at work, they have happy and quality relationships amongst themselves. This translates to more productivity at the workplace. In general it is clear according to this survey that the work productivity of any firm is determined by the relationship of the employees both at work and also at their homes.
